I will be purchasing a set of KAD 6 pots shortly and am wondering about which 10" split rims will fit over 8.4" brakes. I am getting the run around from the wheel companies. I am looking at Force Racing, Image wheels, and CMW racing in Canada. None can definitely say if their 10" wheels will work with the 8.4s and 6 pots. I am using 7.9s on my 10" MBs with KAD 4 pots right now with green pads, but they don't stop worth a damn.
(I need the extra set of new wheels for my race tires) So, does anyone know if any of those wheels mentioned will fit over 8.4s. Is it possible, these days, to get the MBs in less than 2 months? Oh, and I need a price on the 6 pots to fit Mini hubs/solid 8.4 discs, shipped to Calif.
Thanks

Hi Steve,

OK... where do I start with your questions...

If you have access to a lathe, then this challenge is a lot easier. The 6 Pots come with mounting blocks which if you bolt straight to them will take a 7.9" disc. When then supply spacers which move the caliper out radially allowing you to fit the 8.4" disc. If you've got a lathe, then basically you can fit the calipers with the spacers, trial fit the wheel, take them off, machine the spacers down a bit, bolt the caliper on, trial fit the wheel... etc until eventually the calipers fit, then you turn the disc down to match.

However, we don't know enough about the different wheels to know if they will or won't fit. Our Mag race wheels will take an 8.2" disc, but this does not allow much clearance between the caliper and the wheel, so if your car is going to be visiting any lose surfaces (i.e. a gravel trap) then this is putting the calipers in danger of damage.

My first suggestion though, would be to drop those greenstuff pads in the bin and try something better. Mintex do a good road/track pad- the M1144 MLB65 and Ferodo do a great race pad- the DS3000 FCP840R (these need warming up before they have any great friction). You should notice a massive difference using either of these pads instead of the greenstuff, especially if you are running solid discs rather than vented- the Greenstuff pads will be getting very hot very quickly.

6 Pots is also another solution, these are significantly more powerful than the 4 pots, and most importantly an increased pad area.

A pair of A-type 6 pots would be £526.72, 8.4 solid discs £77.63 plain faced or £88.52 grooved. And shipping to the US varies depending on packaged weight, but I would estimate this at around £60.

I hope I have answered everything! Please email me directly (as below) if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thanks for your post.

Best Regards
